Welcome to the band program at Mesquite Elementary. Beginning in fifth grade, Mesquite students have the opportunity to learn to play a band instrument. Students learn fundamental techniques and focus on posture, hand position, tone production, articulation, pitch, and rhythm. Sixth grade band is a second year experience for students who already have one year of experience on their instrument. Both fifth and sixth grade bands perform in winter and spring concerts and assemblies. Sixth graders also participate in the annual Sixth Grade Band Festival during third quarter.
My name is Dr. Sánchez and I am excited to be teaching band at Mesquite Elementary. I have taught band since 1993 and joined Mesquite in 2012. Although I have been trained in all the band instruments, my main instrument is the trombone. I am fortunate to be a graduate of the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. I have a Master of Music degree and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Arizona State University. Most importantly, I love being a teacher and working with young band students. It is my desire for every student to have a great experience in band. Please feel free to contact me at the email address above if you have any questions about the band program.
